While researching the market I realized that most wedding videos were stylized after Reality TV. It made sense considering that style was very popular at one time and it revolutionized TV culture. However, when applied to Wedding videos, that just never fit for me.
Wedding Videos created in that style seem to lacked three main elements of the Reality TV genre: 1. Impending Conflict and Drama 2. Anticipation or intrigue. 3. Fitting a wider audience.
Those elements, made the Reality TV style seemed jerky and weird. I'm just being honest about how it struck me. So what if we did it differently? Do we really need the speech 3-5 shots in? Does the speech work, or is it creepy? Because of this mismatch, I was always looking for new ways to tell a wedding story.
Initially I choose to go speechless, letting the images and emotion of the day tell the story...The characters, the venue, the preparation, the anticipation, the smiles, the support, the love.
How have you broken away from the traditional approach? Have you ever thought about it?
Here's the place we've wrestled to by experimenting with new things.
Would love to learn from your experiences.
